Ho Chi Minh City Spent VND 139 Billion To Prevent Flooding For Tan Son Nhat


Ho Chi Minh City will renovate the A41 Canal, from Tan Son Nhat Airport to Cong Hoa Street to settle the flood with a total amount of VND139 billion.

HCMC Transportation Department has approved the project of renovating the A41 canal, from Tan Son Nhat airport to Cong Hoa street, Ward 4, Tan Binh district to solve the flood, ensure traffic, environmental sanitation and fine city officials.

The project is invested by Tan Binh District Construction Investment Management Board with the total amount of VND 139 billion.

Accordingly, the project will install 2.5 x 2.5 m single box culverts and box culverts instead of open canals with a total length of 837.5 m from Phan Thuc Duyen to Cong Hoa.

Tan Son Nhat Airport is often flooded when it rains.

The dimensions of the sluice will be determined in the construction drawing design stage after collecting full survey data, calculating the basin division as well as ensuring the synchronization of the drainage system.

At the same time, install water collection hatches on both sides of the road connected to the main sewer by P400 horizontal sewer. Construction of a road with a cross-section of 20 m.

To build, install and complete the system of technical infrastructure on the route such as trees, lighting, wastewater, technical trenches. The project implementation period is from 2016 to 2019.

Channel A41 is 2 km long, coming from the canal culvert about 400m in the airport before exiting the open canal outside near the corner of Phan Thuc Duyen street. The water flows from here in a zigzag neighborhood in the direction of Cong Hoa before flowing through the sewers to Nhieu Loc canal.

The project is invested by Tan Binh District Construction Investment Management Board with the total amount of 139 billion VND.

It is tasked to drain 50% of the water in Tan Son Nhat airport but the A41 canal is occupied by people, with many sections narrowed down to 0.8m and filled with soaps and household waste.

Over time, many heavy rains have sunk Tan Son Nhat airfield of up to 30 cm, a series of flights forced to land elsewhere. Most serious may be closing the airport if the water overflows the transformers in the substation.
