According to information from Quang Ninh province, the Quang Ninh airport project has been approved by the Ministry of Transport in 2012 as the domestic airport to receive international flights.

The project was started in September 2015, designed to run 3km long, 45m wide, 7.5m wide margin, 100mx60m brakes, 2-way brakes, B777 and equivalent. . On 23 February, the Prime Minister signed the Decision No. 236 / QD-TTg, defining Van Don international airport as one of 10 international airports of civil aviation network nationwide and It is also the military airport in the strategic direction of the North of the national military airport network.

Pursuant to the Prime Minister’s decision, the Ministry of Communications and Transport has adjusted the planning and construction of the airport into Van Don international airport at level 4E (according to the standard code of the Civil Aviation Organization – ICAO) and military airport level II.

Specifically, the runway will extend from 3km to 3.6km, additional construction of two pitches, rollers connected to the apron and quick exit roller. The station is adjusted to increase capacity to 2.5 million passengers per year, the area of ​​the terminal extension, the minimum parking place is 6 aircraft …

It is expected that by 2030, the railway will complete parallel with the runways, complete the remaining units of the station, increase the capacity to 5 million passengers per year and the minimum parking position to 12 aircraft …

At the announcement of the revised plan, Vice Minister of Transport Le Dinh Tho requested the relevant State management agencies, especially the Vietnam Aviation Administration, private project.

He also asked Quang Ninh province to continue to take the initiative in ensuring the land fund to expand its scale in accordance with the planning and development orientation and promote the people to understand the importance and significance of the project. for the economic development of the locality to receive consensus.

Van Don international airport is expected to come into operation will contribute significantly to economic growth, sustainable development not only for Quang Ninh,the northern key economic region, but also important in the strategy of national defense and security in the sea areas.

Van Don International Airport is the first private domestic airport of Vietnam invested in the form of BOT, invested VND7.500 billion. Van Don International Airport will be operated by the enterprise directly, rather than directly under the management of the Vietnam Airlines Corporation. This is the difference of Van Don International Airport with 21 airports operating in the country.

However, flight management and aviation service charges at Van Don International Airport are still managed uniformly by the State. In particular, for flight operations, Sun Group is responsible for all construction works to ensure flight operations in accordance with the standards of Vietnam and the International Civil Aviation Organization.

After that, Sun Group will transfer all assets to Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation, which is responsible for management, operation, maintenance and development investment under the direction of Ministry of Transport.
