The army has handed over 52 hectares of land to Tan Son Nhat Airport

“From 2014 until now, Ministry of Defense has handed over and expected to hand over 52.22 hectares of defense land area belonging to Tan Son Nhat airport. In which, the area handover to HCMC is about 11.96 hectares, to the Ministry of Transport is about 40.26 ha to implement the planning of transport connection and infrastructure of Tan Son Nhat airport.”

Above information shared by Lieutenant General Tran Don, Deputy Minister of Defense at the   conference held on August 08 on thoroughly grasp and implement the conclusion of the Standing Committee of the Central Military Commission on the management and use of defense land area of Tan Son Nhat airport.

According to leaders of the Ministry of Defense, land defense in general,  land at Tan Son Nhat airport in particular has a relatively large area of about 1,060.82 hectares, of which: the defense land under management is 489.03 hectares, including 275.26 hectares in the north, 231.77 hectares in the south; civil land under management is 107.18 hectares; common land is 464.59 hectares, including 15.62 hectares of military land; civil aviation of 448.97 ha.

However, this land fund has not been planned, interspersed with many units leading to difficulty in management.

Lieutenant General Tran Don said that the management and use of defense land that has not yet used for defense purpose put into economic operation in Tan Son Nhat airport area is a historical problem existed after 1975 to present.

Through a lot of inspections, and correction, the management and use of land at present has gone in order, land areas have protection boundaries and fences to protect and  create favorable conditions for the management, not allow to happen  dispute, encroachment.

The plans for using defense land for economic activities shall be approved by the Ministry of Defense after put into operation have strictly complied with the provisions of law and local regulations with high efficiency, create landscape, infrastructure, have economic, cultural and social significance, fulfill obligations to the State, creating jobs for the local labor force, contributing to the local budget through the operation of the enterprises; generate additional revenue for part of the defense budget, improve and enhance the lives of soldiers and some military rear policies.

Leaders of Ministry of Defense also said that from 2014 until now, Ministry of Defense has handed over and expected to hand over about 52.22 hectares defense land for Tan Son Nhat airport area.

In which, area handed-over to HCMC is about 11.96 hectares; handed over to Ministry of Transportation is about 40.26 hectares; To serve the traffic connections plan and construct equalizing reservoir to reduce traffic congestion and flooding in Tan Son Nhat airport; renovate, upgrade roadways, civil aviation airfields, plan passenger terminals.

Regarding the plan of using defense land for economic operation in Tan Son Nhat airport area, Lieutenant General Tran Don affirmed that the military standing central committee of the Party agreed on policy of continuing the implementation of the plans approved by the Ministry of Defense, but it must be in accordance with the laws, plan and   regulations of Ho Chi Minh City.

Notably, the Ministry of Defense has policy of not allow to sign new contract in the area of Tan Son Nhat airport to plan again.

For small land areas which have been contracted and do not do business in warehouses, have economic effect and not affect the  tasks and strict management, it is allowed to keep the original status and ready to be revoked upon request, but must be checked and corrected in accordance with the regulations of law, of Ministry of Defense and Ho Chi Minh City.

As for golf course project in Tan Son Nhat Airport, Lieutenant General Tran Don said that the Ministry of Defense has checked, reviewed and reported to the Prime Minister and organize implementation when have decision of the Prime Minister.

It is known that the Government Inspectorate has also set up a team to survey the management and use of land for national defense and security. This team has also implemented a number of tasks under the direction of the General Inspectorate.

It is expected that on August 11, leaders of the Government Inspectorate will have a meeting with leaders of the Ministry of Defense to discuss about the inspection and management of defense land.
