In 2010, Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee approved Saigon Trade Corporation – Limited Company as an investor to carry out the project of building Commercial Center for Hotel and Hotel Services in Tax Department. As planned, the sale of Saigon Tax Trade Center will be made in 2014 to start the new building in early 2015. Many shops in the Saigon Tax Trade Center have to relocate to the new address.
However, when news of the 136-year-old building was announced, many Saigon people expressed regret that the place was associated with many memories. HCMC People’s Committee has instructed the investor to coordinate with the research units to have plans to preserve and preserve the ancient architecture of the building.
Saigon Tax Trade Center was chosen to remove all mosaic tiles and re-install the new stairs. This work has been done by the Department of Archeology, Faculty of History University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU HCMC in 3 months.

On October 12th, the construction unit started to smash Saigon Tax Trade Center to prepare for the construction of the new building at this location. It is expected that the building will be started in the first quarter of 2017 and put into use in the year 2020.
The new shopping mall called Satra Tax Plaza, 40 floors high. There are 6 basement floors and 2 basements for trade centers, supermarkets, services, entertainment … The remaining 4 basements are for parking, the 34 storey tower blocks back, to the back offices and hotels. The top of the building has a helipad.
The new building has to meet both architectural and conservation needs, keeping in mind the imaginative silhouette of the building in 1924, reminiscent of a GMC – Old Taxi, ensuring harmony with Ancient architecture of buildings in the area such as Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, Rex Hotel, Theaters, Ho Chi Minh City Post Office.
The new building will have access to the Ben Thanh – Suoi Tien metro station. At the same time, retaining many images of old taxis, the entrance hall in the old position was opened straight with stairs. Entrance between Le Loi – Nguyen Hue will remain. All mosaic tiles in the entry halls will be back to the old location in order to keep the image Saigon Tax Trade Center in the memory of the Saigon.
