The representative of the HCMC Railway Administration said that in 2006, the estimated cost of urban railway No.1 was estimated at $773 million. In 2008, the project was approved by the Government, with the support of the Japanese consulting firm with a total investment experience of $214 million, which is close to reality.
The above cost, the City People’s Committee has invited evaluation units of Singapore, then consulted and approved by many ministries and the Prime Minister.
However, according to the management of urban railway, the urban railway projects in the city are facing the risk of lack of money. The demand for ODA capital for the whole metro line 1 for 2017 is $246 million, but by April 2017, the central government allocated only $91 million.
Since there is no money paid for workers on Lunar New Year 2017, the Board has applied for $27.3 million. Recently, the City People’s Committee has continued to pay $23 million to pay for the contractor. However, even the additional $23 million is not enough demand because each month the value needs to pay the contractor about 23 – 27.5 million.
Therefore, the CMU hopes the ministries and branches to pay attention not only to the metro line 1 but also to the city to invest in urban infrastructure, socio-economic development, ensuring the projects are implemented properly.
