Deputy Prime Minister allow to expand Dien Bien airport

The Office of the Government has just announced the conclusion of the Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung on the plan to assign the People’s Committee of Dien Bien province is competent authorities in the management of investment and construction of Dien Bien airport .

Accordingly, Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung assigned the Ministry of Transport to chair or coordinate with Dien Bien Provincial People’s Committee, Ministry of Planning and Investment, Ministry of Finance to direct interested investors To propose investment projects and build and expand Dien Bien airport as a basis for consideration and assignment of investment and construction management and implementation tasks in strict accordance with the provisions of law.

The results of the work shall be reported to the Prime Minister before September 15,

Deputy PM said that in the difficult budget conditions, the proposed study of investment and construction of Dien Bien airport in the form of PPP is appropriate.

However, the Deputy PM noted that investment in the form of PPP is very complex, especially in the field of airports, airports. Therefore, it is necessary to study the form of investment, management and exploitation in the conditions of existing works and assets at Dien Bien airport being managed and operated by the Vietnam Airports Corporation , Vietnam Flight Management Corporation and other enterprises.

According to Decision No. 2501 of the Ministry of Transport, in the period to 2020, Dien Bien airport is expected to have capacity of about 300,000 passengers and 500 tons of cargo per year. The port has three parking positions, two for ATR72, one for A320, A321 or equivalent. By 2030, the port will increase capacity to 2 million passengers and 10,000 tons of cargo per year.

Also according to the decision, 2020 expected to exploit the routes in the direction of: Dien Bien – Noi Bai; Dien Bien – Cat Bi. Oriented to 2030 expected to exploit two additional routes: Dien Bien – Da Nang; Dien Bien – Tan Son Nhat.

In the future, according to the trend of Dien Bien airport, it will become an international airport, which will take passengers from Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar and Thailand.
