Hanoi prohibits Grab, Uber during peak hours at 13 streets


From January 11, Hanoi began to ban contract vehicles under 9 seats Uber, Grab operates in 13 streets during peak hours to reduce traffic jams. Violations will be handled by functional forces.

Hanoi Transportation Department has completed the installation of the ban on the contract car under 9 seats into 13 streets including: Hoang Hoa Tham, Mai Xuan Thuong, Giang Vo, Lang Ha, Le Van Luong, School Chinh, Kham Thien, Chuong Duong bridge (Nguyen Van Cu to Tran Nhat Duat), Hang Bai, Phu Doan, Cau Giay, Xuan Thuy and Giai Phong.

Accordingly, Hanoi began to prohibit contract cars under nine seats Uber, Grab operates in 13 streets during peak hours from 6 hours to 9 hours and 16 hours 30 to 19 hours 30.

Mr Vu Van Hien, director of Hanoi’s Transport Department, said: “These are the streets where the Department of Transportation previously banned taxi operations in the peak time frame, to reduce traffic jams. From January 11, the means of violation will be handled by functional forces.

According to the Hanoi Department of Transport, Uber’s operations, Grab broke the plan of transport planning in Hanoi. Therefore, since June 2017, the Department has written to the City People’s Committee about the planned number of Grab cars, Uber in the direction not increase new units as well as the number of vehicles.

Uber, Grab taxi also have to comply with the regulations on traffic distribution, traffic organization and banned into some streets during peak hours such as taxis to reduce traffic jams.

Accordingly, units assigned by the Department of Transport to have “badges” must strictly comply with the Government’s Decree No. 86/2014 / ND-CP dated 10 September 2014 on business and Ministry of Transport has issued the Circular No. 63/2014 / TT- Ministry of Transport regulating the organization and management of automobile transportation business and trucking support services.

The Transportation Inspectorate will intensify inspections and patrols of transport vehicles and vehicles which have been issued with a “transfer vehicle” badge by the Department of Transport, strictly punish drivers and the unit has violated.
