HCMC Plans To Build Underground Space

Ho Chi Minh City will focus on planning underground space construction, especially underground parking and planning division of some areas along rivers and canals in 2017.

HCMC People’s Committee has assigned Department of Planning and Architecture to implement the plan of building underground space, especially underground parking planning and planning areas in some areas along rivers and canals in the city in 2017.

The goal of the planning is to serve the urban renewal and urban development program, in conjunction with the development of waterways and the specific types of water tourism.

Given the limited urban land area, large population, to ensure the feasibility, in accordance with the status of urban development in HCMC. During the planning process, foreign experts and consultants may be invited.

Currently, HCM City is building subway lines, underground parking, underground trade center. However, Ho Chi Minh City has no underground space planning so the construction of subways and underground parking is difficult because of the construction of underground systems such as cables, water pipes and telecommunications cables…

When dealing with underground infrastructure, developers must have time to process, so projects are delayed when constructing the lower part. Therefore, when there is a map of underground space planning, it will solve the problem of technical infrastructure and help to build infrastructure projects faster.

The Department of Planning and Architecture was also assigned to review and evaluate the implementation of the revised master plan for the construction of Ho Chi Minh City by 2025 and submit it to the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City at the earliest in April- The Prime Minister approved the policy of adjusting the master plan for construction of Ho Chi Minh City by 2030 with a vision to 2050.

At the same time, in collaboration with the HCM City Department of Construction, the Ho Chi Minh City Institute for Development Studies accelerated the inventory and valuation of villas before 1975 to list the projects that need to be preserved. Villa projects are not allowed to dismantle, submitted to HCM City People’s Committee in April -2017.

Besides, HCM City also assigned the Department of Planning and Architecture to organize an international contest for the planning design of the district with a scale of 1/5000 in Can Gio district along the direction of developing Can Gio district into an urban center relaxation and entertainment. Conservation of mangrove ecosystems should be ensured.
