HCMC plans to expand Tan Son Nhat Airport

HCMC People’s Committee has instructed the Department of Transport and Communications to coordinate with the Ministry of Transport to expand planning Tan Son Nhat airport.

Accordingly, the Department of Transport is responsible for implementation of the content of the direction of Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung on planning the expansion of Tan Son Nhat airport. At the same time, report to the City People’s Committee to solve problems beyond the authority if any.

HCMC plans to expand Tan Son Nhat Airport

Earlier, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc concluded the plan to adjust the expansion plans of Tan Son Nhat international airports.

According to the Prime Minister, the adjustment of planning, expansion, investment and construction of a modern, synchronous and international standard passenger terminal in the South to meet service requirements reaching 20 million passengers a year. Raising the capacity of Tan Son Nhat International Airport to meet the demand of air transportation, ensuring a minimum of 50 million passengers per year.

At the same time, prepare to invest in the construction of cargo terminal, aircraft parking area, maintenance area for vehicles, equipment and works serving aviation activities in the northern region of Tan Son Nhat international airports and airfields (where the current golf course is located).

The above-mentioned plan can meet the requirements of investment and construction progress, overcome overload in air transport, effectively use land fund and reduce investment cost, ensure safety and security in accordance with the provisions of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

To soon implement the plan, the Prime Minister assigned the Ministry of Transport to instruct ADP-I consultancy company to continue coordinating with ADCC consultancy company to complete the planning adjustment plan, ensuring the highest efficiency. At the same time, in collaboration with the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City to study, calculate the overall, propose possible solutions to reduce traffic jams in the area outside Tan Son Nhat International Airport.
