(NQL) – The HCM City People’s Committee has instructed that the Department of Transport chairs and coordinates with the Urban Transport Works Management Board and the related draft report departments to report regularly about the feasibility and effectiveness of the investment in fast bus routes, the proposal of modifying the Green Transport Development Project.
HCM City People’s Committee requests the contents of the proposal to adjust the Green Transport Development project to ensure the construction of a clean fuel bus system, applying new facilities and technologies to bring about the convention for people in using, it contributes to the development of public transport system of Ho Chi Minh City.
The HCM City Green Transport Development Project will be implemented along the corridor of Vo Van Kiet – Mai Chi Tho Boulevard, through districts 1, 2, 5, 6, 8, Binh Tan district and Binh Chanh suburban district.
The project is divided into two components; In particular, component 1 focuses on the development of a bus corridor (BRT).
Under component 1, the project will build the BRT bus number 1 on the corridor of Vo Van Kiet – Mai Chi Tho Boulevard (with a total length of 23 km) and supporting infrastructure such as 28 stops, 17 pedestrian bridges (11 new bridges, 6 upgraded bridges), 1 terminus, 1 technical logistics; 28 BRT bridges using clean CNG fuel; Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) includes advanced traffic management system (intelligent traffic signal, camera, electronic information system) and bus management system (system global positioning, communication devices); To invest in additional facilities to provide the best possible access to BRT bus services such as: 17 pedestrian bridges, 8 yards for private cars, improved sidewalks and public spaces. parks and landscapes on the route.

Component 2 of the project will focus on institutional strengthening. This component includes technical assistance, training, capacity building and upgrading facilities for units involved in project implementation, management and operation to develop the BRT bus number 1 and study the feasibility of new BRT bus routes; Smart ticket system, integrated planning of land use and traffic planning, are factors that determine the success and sustainability of operation and exploitation of BRT and public transport development in the city. The project has a total investment of $ 137.5 million USD, of which $ 124 million was a loan from World Bank and $ 13.5 million was from the city budget. The project will be implemented and completed from 2015 to 2020.
