In particular, Ho Chi Minh City port group is defined as a national general port, a regional focal point, including wharves on Saigon river, Cat Lai wharf on Dong Nai river, wharf on Nha Be river, Ben Hiep zone Phuoc on the Soai Rap river.
The Ministry of Transport shall determine the wharf area on the Saigon River to be relocated and transformed according to the decision of the Prime Minister, with 10 ports identified. In particular, the relocation of Tan Thuan port, District 7 (of Saigon port) to Hiep Phuoc area (Nha Be district) in accordance with the process of building Thu Thiem 4 bridge ).
This announcement also identifies Hiep Phuoc seaport (Soai Rap, Nha Be) as the main port of Ho Chi Minh City seaport in the future, mainly for general cargo, containers, Up to 50,000 tons, container ships of up to 4,000 TEUs (1 TEU equivalent to 1 20 feet container); Some specialized wharves directly serve industrial establishments adjacent.
As for Nha Rong – Khanh Hoi Port, at the end of 2017, the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City has requested Saigon Port to hand over the site before December 31 2018. After the move, the ground will be handed over to Ngoc Vien Dong Urban Development and Investment Co., Ltd to implement Nha Rong – Khanh Hoi Complex.
The Nha Rong – Khanh Hoi complex is a mixed-use high-rise apartment complex, including a commercial center with 3,116 apartments, 32 villas, kindergartens, elementary schools, junior high schools, medical and technical infrastructure as approved by the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City approving the detailed planning 1/500 scale of the port district 4.
The project sites at Nha Rong – Khanh Hoi port are 12, 13 and 18 wards in District 4, Ho Chi Minh City, with an area of about 31.5 hectares.
According to the Ministry of Transport, ports that have not been relocated continue to operate in the status quo, not upgraded, upgraded, expanded and relocated after 2020, or terminated at the end of their term.

Accordingly, the Thu Thiem 4 bridge will have an investment of over VND 5,200 billion invested by Phat Dat Real Estate Development Joint Stock Company – Infrastructure Investment and Development JSC. 620 – Construction Investment and Development Joint Stock Company build 168 as an investor. Thu Thiem bridge project 4 was proposed by the Prime Minister for early construction to increase connectivity for Thu Thiem urban area and solve the congestion from the south to the center.

The completion of Thu Thiem 4 will also remove the traffic pressure from Binh Thanh District, Thu Duc District through districts 7, 8, Binh Chanh, Nha Be (Thu Thiem 1 bridge – Thu Thiem new urban area – Thu Thiem bridge 4); At the same time, contributing to promoting socio-economic development.
Under the plan, there will be five bridges and a tunnel linking other areas of the city with the Thu Thiem urban area (District 2). Thu Thiem Bridge 1 and Sai Gon River crossing (connecting District 2 and District 1) were built and put into use. In early 2015, Thu Thiem 2 Bridge with a total capital of nearly VND 3,100 billion will be started and expected to be completed in 2018.
