HoREA Welcomes The Idea Of ‘Saigon River Boulevard’


HCM City Real Estate Association (HoREA) proposed HCM City People’s Committee to study the idea of former planners in the first ten months of 2017. The main urban development of Ho Chi Minh City is in the area with the high terrain, toward the northwest of the city.

The reason that HoREA launched in the current situation, the direction of planning master urban development is also to respond to the situation of global climate change, sea level rise in the near future, which TP is one of the most affected provinces, in terms of most of the city is located in low areas.

HoREA welcomes the idea of 'Saigon River Boulevard'

HCMC is developing strongly towards the sea, where the low altitude is vulnerable to floods when climate change, sea level rise.

Mr.Le Hoang Chau, HoREA’s chairman, said that HCM City is currently at a low altitude of 0.5m (Nha Be, Can Gio) to about 32m (Long Binh Hill, District 9). The low-lying area of the city in the south-southwest – southeast of Can Gio, Can Be, Binh Chanh, District 7, District 8, District 2, part of District 9. The highlands are in the North – East North – Northwest of District 12, Go Vap, part of Thu Duc District, District 9 and Cu Chi District and Hoc Mon District. The topography of the city is gradually decreasing from north-northwest to south-southeast-southwest; The system of Sai Gon river under semi-diurnal tide regime makes it more difficult to drain water. According to the scenario, if sea level rises only 0.5 m, HCM City will be flooded many areas.

HoREA welcomes the idea of “Avenue of Saigon River” from Ben Suc, Cu Chi District through Hoc Mon District, District 12, Go Vap District, Binh Thanh District. In Ho Chi Minh City, in addition to ring roads 2, 3 and 4, there are also centrally-planned axes that are being developed such as East-West Boulevard (Vo Van Kiet Boulevard) The north-south road (Nguyen Huu Tho street), national highway 22 connecting with Truong Chinh – Cong Hoa – Nguyen Van Troi – Nam Ky Khoi Nghia.

According to HoREA, along the Saigon River, if it is included in the plan and has a roadmap for implementation, it will be implemented in a parallel way with national highway 22 connecting to the provincial road No.8.The other crossroads will contribute to promoting socio-economic development in the northwest of the city, spreading to Thuan An, Ben Cat (Binh Duong) districts; Duc Hoa district (Long An province) and Trang Bang district (Tay Ninh province).
