Inaugurate Cao Lanh cable-stayed bridge with the total of VND12 trillion

On May 27 morning, Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung and Ms. Julie Bishop, Australia’s Foreign Minister has issued an order jointly inaugurated the Cao Lanh Bridge, the iconic bridge for relations strategic partnership between the two countries.

Attending the event were former Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung; Former Standing Party Secretary Le Hong Anh; Former Deputy Prime Minister Truong Vinh Trong; Leaders of some Central Committees, Ministries, branches, Dong Thap and some provinces in the Mekong Delta; Vietnamese Ambassador to Australia, Australian Ambassador to Vietnam.

Inaugurate Cao Lanh cable-stayed bridge

The Cao Lanh bridge project and the link between Cao Lanh bridge and Vam Cong bridge are component projects under the Central Mekong Delta project. This is a transport project of great importance to the socio-economic development of Dong Thap province in particular and the Mekong Delta in general.

Cao Lanh Bridge is a cable stayed bridge with beautiful architecture, built by modern technology, is the main item of the project with a total investment of over 12 trillion. Of which the Australian Government provided $ 160 million in grants, $ 410 million in ADB loans, and counterpart funds from the Government of Vietnam.

To implement the project, more than four years, the Ministry of Transport, Dong Thap province with donors, contractors, consultants, designers in the country and internationally have been many efforts, To overcome difficulties and obstacles for the construction on schedule, ensuring the quality of works.

Along with the investment in Vam Cong bridge and the roads under the project connecting the downtown area the Mekong Delta, making the Cao Lanh Bridge in use will create a network of roads complete, connected synchronously with the the economic center of this area.

At the same time, the completion of this project also opened a new route from the southwestern provinces to Ho Chi Minh City, contributing significantly to socio-economic development, ensuring national defense and security for people’s lives, solving traffic jams in this area.

Speaking at the inauguration, Deputy PM Trinh Dinh Dung affirmed that the Mekong River Delta has a very important role in the development of Vietnam. This is a land that has many advantages for economic development on land and sea as well as for expanding cooperation with the Greater Mekong Subregion; It is the largest granary of the country, contributing to ensuring food security in the country as well as globally.

Over the years, ODA donors, including Australia, Asian Development Bank (ADB) is always used effectively, a positive contribution to the cause of economic development – social Vietnam.
