Six large-scale canal renovation projects to be launched in Ho Chi Minh City

Ho Chi Minh City is calling for investment in six urban refurbishment projects on canal and river side in the form of public-private partnership (PPP). It is expected that from now to 2020, the scale of relocation will be about 6,223 units, the compensation cost is about VND 19,023.7 million.

The following is a list of six large-scale canal rehabilitation projects to be launched in Ho Chi Minh City:

Project on relocation and resettlement of upper and southern households in Doi Can (District 8)

The canal is 13 km long, passing through the districts of District 4, District 7 and District 8 under the Ho Chi Minh City Water Environment Improvement Project – phase 3, Tau Hu canal – Ben Nghe – – Te, scale 1,600ha. Total number of affected households is 6,142 houses and riverside. Particularly, the passage through district 8 (south of the canal) will be conducted in wards 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 with a total of 5,055 affected units and supported about VND12,800 billion.

The relocation of households is expected to expand to Pham The Hien Street, while reducing the protection corridor of the canal from 30m to 13m, clean land fund to implement BT has an area of ​​about 23ha to thanh The contract for BT investors.

Environment improvement project, Xuyen Tam canal construction

The Xuyen Tam canal runs through Binh Thinh and Go Vap districts with a total length of about 6,214.5 m (from Nhieu Loc – Thi Nghe canal to Vam Thuat river). 3 branch lines with the length of 1,936m (including bridge, Binh Trieu, Binh Loi).

The goal of the project is to improve the water environment, to clear the river, to build embankments along the canal, to meet the drainage demand with a basin area of ​​703ha, to combine construction of new residential areas. Along the two sides of the canal, they have modern living environment suitable and synchronous with the planning and current technical infrastructure and social infrastructure.

Van Thanh canal improvement project

Rach Van Thanh (belonging to the Nhieu Loc – Thi Nghe canal system), which ranges from Dien Bien Phu bridge to Nhieu Loc – Thi Nghe canal crossing, through the wards of 19, 21 and 22, Binh Thanh district, total length of about 1 ,5 kilometres. The Van Thanh canal improvement project is planned to be implemented by PPP (BT contract), aiming at improving the water environment, clearing the river and embankment.

The cost of dredging canals, construction of roads around the canal about VND430 billion, implemented in the form of public PPP (BT contract). With estimated compensation cost of VND1,355 billion (834 affected units), Binh Thanh district plans to use the existing resettlement fund in the locality to implement the compensation ground.

Cau Dua canal improvement project (District 4)

Land recovery project of 160 cases to build embankment and green park, embellish urban areas along Cau Dua canals connecting from the regulating lake to Ben Nghe canal, combining pumping station to regulate storm water, check tide control and water environment protection. The project objective is to prevent and reduce the inundation of 120ha of Khanh Hoi Lake Park and its vicinity in District 4.

In addition to the objective of improving the environment and urban landscape along the canal, the Cau Dua canal rehabilitation project will be combined with the Khanh Hoi Lake Park project to promote the efficiency of the Khanh Hoi lake park, To create a complete infrastructure system to serve the needs of cultural, entertainment and recreation activities and improve the living environment of people living in District 4.

Project to improve landscape of Song Tan Lake (District 7)

Song Tan lake has a total area of ​​about 10.9 hectares of water, length about 1.200m. Location of the land was formed on low land, marshes in the residential area of ​​Tan Kieng Ward, District 7, a residential area is formed long, developed along the Te canal, the canals and almost leveling becomes prison pond.
