Roe (Muntiacus vuquangensis) is one of the most endangered and endangered species in Southeast Asia. It has been known to science since 1994 and is only found in the Truong Son Range, which borders Laos and Vietnam.
Since 2000, they have been recorded through camera trapping in three forests in Vietnam. Illegal hunting, mainly using traps made of simple steel strings, has caused the species population to decline seriously.
In 2016, due to the declining population, mainly due to illegal hunting and trapping, the status of large species has shifted from being threatened to being seriously threatened in the Red Book of Species threatened.
Research teams are continuing to expand the area of biodiversity surveying by camera trapping, which includes places with high biodiversity potential in Thua Thien-Hue province and northern Quang Nam province. .
