Van Don Airport was started in March 2016 in Doan Ket commune, Van Don district, Quang Ninh province, on a total area of ​​325 hectares, invested in the form of BOT with a total investment of about VND7,700 billion and Sun Group is the owner. Van Don Airport was approved by the Ministry of Transport as an airport of 4E (according to the standard code of the International Civil Aviation Organization – ICAO) and a military airfield of level II.

When it comes into operation, it will be an international airport with a 3.6 km runway, 45 m wide, capable of picking up the world’s most modern cargo and passenger aircraft.

Especially, Van Don airfield is also equipped with the ILS Cat II air navigation system, ensuring the safety of the aircraft landing in all weather conditions.

The roof of the Van Don airport terminal is inspired by the image of the brown wind sails, stacked towards the sea ..

With a total area of ​​nearly 27,000 square meters, the terminal is designed to include two elevated and separate elevated platforms, one code E passenger flight, three C code passenger bridges and four remote parking locations. (phase 1), with 31 air ticket counters.

In the first phase to 2020, the station will meet the capacity of serving 2.5 million passengers / year and the peak hour will reach 1,250 passengers / hour. In the next period, it will increase its capacity to 5 million passengers / year. . Particularly the cargo terminal has a capacity of 10,000 tons of cargo per year.

The air traffic control tower is located close to the international terminal area, with a height of 42 m, ensuring the surveillance and coordination of the aircraft to and from the ground and the air safely. Aside from the size of the aircraft landing area, Phase 1 will be able to provide sufficient space for up to seven aircraft in phase 1 to 2020.
