According to the Ministry of Transport, on 9/8, Minister Truong Quang Nghia had a meeting with leaders of Ca Mau province on the need to invest in Hon Khoai general port project as well as local transport infrastructure development projects.
At the meeting, leaders of Ca Mau province said that the investment in Hon Khoai port is very necessary, not only for the needs of importing TEU and coal but also for agricultural commodities such as rice and fishery products. … and growing commodities such as petroleum, liquefied petroleum gas.
Hon Khoai port, when invested, will become the largest deepwater port in Vietnam’s seaport system, it can handle ships up to 250,000 DWT.
At the same time, it has created a strong tripod for economic development in the Mekong delta (including KienGiang – Phu Quoc, Tra Vinh – Dinh An and Nam Can – Hon Khoai economic zone). Since then, the Port of Hon Khoai created the transit of Vietnam as the Netherlands in Europe, representatives of leaders Ca Mau.
Therefore, Ca Mau requested the leaders of the Ministry of Transport to consider the project of Hon Khoai Port as a national priority project calling for investment and the mechanism of using state capital. At the same time, the Ca Mau Department promotes the calling for investment and preparation of Feasibility Study (FS) Project and guides local implementation of the project.
In addition, the representative of Ca Mau province also requested the Ministry of Transport to support, implement and complete key local transport infrastructure projects such as Nam Can – Dat Mui; QL63, Quan Lo-Phung Hiep
For local proposals for road projects, Minister Truong Quang Nghia affirmed that, in the proposal for medium-term funding for the transport sector in this term, there was an investment in Ca Mau.

Total investment capital of the Hon Khoai Port project is about USD 2.5 billion, of which 15% of the enterprise capital and 85% of the loan capital, will be implemented from 2016 to 2020.
According to the proposal, the port will be built on Hon Khoai island, about 17 km from the coast, 42 km from the Nam Can economic zone. Hon Khoai port is planned as a national general port, able to receive the largest ships capacity and the world’s load today.
