(+84) 898 898 688HCM City Chairman Nguyen Thanh Phong has assigned the Department of Transportation to coordinate with Long An, Tien Giang, Dong Thap, Vinh Long, Can Tho and related agencies to unify the planning of HCM City – Can Tho, submitted to the Ministry of Transport for approval.
The Department of Planning and Investment of the city was assigned to coordinate with provinces and financial agencies to unify the investment mode for railways to complete the dossiers and submit them to competent authorities for approval.
Before, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Phong worked with provincial leaders on the planning of HCM City – Can Tho railway. After hearing the report of the Southern Institute of Science and Technology and the Canadian Finance Corporation MorFund, Mr.Phong expressed his agreement on the need to invest in the railroad for the economic development of the five provinces passing through.
The railway starts at Tan Kien Station (HCM City), parallel to Ring Road 2. To Cho Dem intersection, the pair along Ho Chi Minh City – Trung Luong expressway to Ben Luc (Long An), Trung Luong, Cai Lay, My Thuan (Tien Giang) and cross the Tien River downstream of My Thuan Bridge to the outskirts of Vinh Long Town.
Continue along the highway to Can Tho ferry, the railway crossing the Hau River at the lower section of Can Tho Bridge to connect Can Tho City at the Cai Rang port.
The whole line is 134 km long with 10 stations, 1,435 mm line, speed below 200 km / h for cargo ships and over 200 km / h for passenger ships. The project has a total investment of $ 3.6 billion and it is built in the form of BOT (Build – Operate – Transfer).
According to the Southern Institute of Science and Technology, the investment in the Ho Chi Minh City-Can Tho railway system is necessary, because the project is in line with the master plan to 2020. By the end of 2013, under the witness of the leaders of the Ministry of Transport, Southwest Steering Committee and representatives of the Mekong Delta provinces, Southern Institute of Science and Technology and EDES Corporation signed Memorandum of Understanding on co-investment in this railway system.
